The 2017 Musigny Grand Cru is clearly darker in color than others and quite limpid. Intense black cherry, wild strawberry and cassis scents storm from the glass, nicely defined but primal and showing quite a bit of new oak at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins, fleshy and generous. Quite sweet toward the finish, which is just missing a little depth and complexity considering the status of the vineyard, though it does gain cohesion and poise in the glass. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. - Neil Martin
With a long history going back to the 15th century, Comte Georges de Vogüé is undoubtedly one of the finest Domaines in the Côte de Nuits. The estate is currently led by the sisters Comtesse Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, with Jean Lupatelli as chef de cave. De Vogüé holds a 7.2-hectare plot in the Musigny Grand Cru, by far the biggest landowner in the 10.8-hectare vineyard. The 2017 vintage in Burgundy experienced a frost event in late April, which caused damage to some vineyards and reduced yields. However, those estates that were not affected by frost and managed to produce healthy grapes produced wines of good quality.
