Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise is a vin doux naturel from the Rhône Valley made entirely from the Muscat Blanc à Petit Grains grape. Made via the ‘mutage’ method whereby fermentation is halted at the desired sweetness level with the addition of fortifying spirit, it is a particularly aromatic and floral style of sweet wine. The 2017 from illustrious producer, M. Chapoutier, is medium-bodied and vibrant, oozing with rich tropical fruits, citrus and rose water. Best consumed when young, it makes a lovely match with fruit tarts and pastries.
