Though unaffected by the early frost of 2017, yields were down 10% at Château Mouton Rothschild and meant an unusually high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon made up the final blend (90%, alongside 9% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot). As ever with young Mouton, this is exceptionally concentrated and broad-shouldered, yet offers exuberant notes of sweet black fruits, spices, cigar box and graphite. Beautifully fresh yet intensely structured, this should evolve beautifully over the next 4 or 5 decades.
