Chateau Montelena is one of the oldest and most illustrious Napa estates and undoubtedly helped place California on the fine wine map when it took out one of the top prizes at the 1976 ‘Judgement of Paris’. The 1992 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is dense, broad-shouldered and opulently fruited, with notes of sweet black fruits, crushed stone minerality, cigar, dried herbs and liquorice. Afford this a little time in a decanter and you are almost certain to be rewarded.
