Meursault Les Vireuils Camille Giroud 2017
Vintage note. 2017 was described as a "rollercoaster vintage" by some. Following on from the tricky 2016 vintage, a year where frosts threatened the whole harvest, 2017 was somewhat of a relief for the growers despite the early budbreak and sporadic hail. Things eventually calmed down and picking started only slightly ahead of schedule. The resultant reds and whites are generally characterised by a freshness and pure fruit character that some vignerons likened to the 2010 or 1999 vintage in style. Quality was generally high across the board, but 2017 is a year to look to good growers and good winemakers, particularly in Chablis where late frosts reduced yield and discretion was essential.
