Mestres Mas Via Cava 2000
Mestres is one of the oldest producers of Cava focussing on traditional native grape varieties and the winemaking techniques favoured by their ancestors. Mas Via is a limited release cuvée only produced in exceptional vintages and the 2000 edition is made from a blend of 65% Xarel-lo, 20% Macabeo and 15% Parellada from selected old vineyards. The base wine is fermented in barrels and matured for 12 months on lees before secondary fermentation in bottle and a further 140 months (11+ years) maturation. This is an extraordinarily complex and expressive sparkling wine with incredible notes of baked bread, spice-roasted apples, citrus peel, fenugreek seed and smoked nuts. Voluminous yet sleek, it rides the perfect line between richness, subtly oxidative notes and tensile freshness – a triumph!
