Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon 1976 is a mature-vintage Cabernet Sauvignon from one of the iconic wineries of the Napa Valley of California. The Mayacamas vineyards are located on top of the majestic Mount Veeder, one of the most elevated sites in Napa, and a site which produces Cabernets of great concentration, complexity and longevity. Famously included in Steven Spurrier`s 1976 `Judgement of Paris` tasting, Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon is rightly considered one of the great wines of California. Former winemaker Bob Travers diligently pursued his own methods for producing fine Cabernet, which have prevailed over passing fashions. Fermentation was done with native yeasts in concrete tanks, with no additions. The wine was then aged in botti-style oak casks for 18 months, followed by six to 12 months in old barrels and a further two years in bottle. "A huge, structured wine, the 1976 blasts across the palate with massive dark fruit followed by more ferrous notes that recall iron, smoke, tobacco and cedar. This is old-school Napa Valley mountain Cabernet - if I can say that – at its best." Vinous, 2014
