Though initially concerned by early season frosts, 2017 turned out to be a strong vintage for Left Bank Bordeaux and this is a marvellous release from Château Margaux composed of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Initially quite shy on the nose, it unwinds in the glass to offer gorgeous waves of black cherry, crème and raspberry, interlaced with floral notes of violets and more savoury hints of earth and spices. It is voluminous yet impeccably balanced on the palate, with wonderfully fine-grained tannins and bright acidity, concluding with an elegant, multi-layered finish. Drinking window. 2025-2060.
