Hermitage Vin de Paille Chave Half 1990

Legendary Hermitage producer, Jean Louis Chave, also produces tiny amounts of Vin de Paille, a sweet wine made from grapes left to dry on straw mats for three months. It is not made in every vintage as conditions have to be perfect and, on average, fewer than 1,000 half bottles are released. The blend is often around 90% Marsanne and 10% Roussanne and is aged for about 48 months prior to bottling. 1990 was an exceptional vintage and this is an incredibly rich and unctuous wine, offering up sensational notes of citrus, stone fruits, dried flowers and honey. Though delicious to drink, these sweet wines often have a near limitless lifespan.
