Hermitage La Chapelle Jaboulet 2017
Hermitage La Chapelle from Paul Jaboulet Ainé is arguably one of the most iconic wines in the world. They are one of the largest landowners on the famous hill of Hermitage and this wine is produced from a selection of the finest parcels of Syrah from the Les Bessards, Le Meal, Greffieux and Rocoules lieux-dits. The 2017 is utterly sublime, leaping from the glass with wonderful notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, plum, black olives, charcuterie, liquorice, dried lavender and pencil shavings. It is full-bodied, dense and rich, with silken texture and a finish of quite remarkable length and complexity. Best tackled after a few more years of cellaring but expect this to evolve wonderfully over the next few decades.
