The Garage Wine Co. was founded in 2001 with the aim of championing local growers and making small quantities of diverse, characterful wines. Canadian ex-ski-coach-turned-winemaker, Derek Mossmann Knapp, sources his grapes from a variety of local growers, vinifying each parcel separately and labelling each wine with a ‘Lot’ number to determine its source and vintage.
This is a Carignan-based field blend from the Truquilemu Vineyard which is found on the Coastal Range of mountains in the Maule Valley and has 70+ year-old, dry-grown vines. From the optimal 2016 vintage, this is blue and red-fruited, floral, spicy and mineral, with exceptionally tannins, vibrant acidity and formidable length.
