Domaine Guigal is among the great producers of the Rhône Valley and is often considered as a benchmark for quality. Ex Voto is their flagship wine from the hill of Hermitage first created in 2005 and is an extremely limited cuvée only produced in the best vintages. It is 100% Syrah from the famous lieux-dits of Bessards, Greffieux, Murands and Hermite, all of which have vines between 40 and 90 years of age.
The 2012 is deep, dark and powerful, with remarkably rich black fruits and a cornucopia of exotic spices, mocha, liquorice and pulverised rocks. Despite 42 months maturation in oak, it is almost imperceptible such is the phenomenal balance of this wine. This is ready to drink but will happily age for another 20-30 years.
