Domaine Franck Balthazar Cornas Chaillot 2010 is a full-bodied, single-vineyard red wine from the Cornas appellation of the northern Rhône Valley. Franck Balthazar`s flagship Cornas Chaillot uses Syrah fruit from a centenarian plot of Syrah vines in the revered Chaillot vineyard – a parcel Franck acquired from his uncle, Noël Verset. The wine is matured in used demi-muids for 18 months. "right purple. Intense, mineral-accented aromas of black and blue fruits and cola, with a sexy floral topnote. Sappy, palate-staining blackberry and bitter cherry flavours show superb depth and energy, with a spine of juicy acidity adding lift and structure. Rich but lively, with excellent finishing clarity and slow-mounting tannins. For such a powerful wine there`s a lithe character here, which I`ve come to expect from Balthazar`s wines over the years."
