Contino 17 Barricas 1200cl 2013
Viñedos Contino was established in 1973 and is widely considered one of the instigators of the Rioja wine revolution and one of the greatest advocates of the ‘château’ concept in the region whereby wines are made from a single estate. 2013 was a dramatic vintage with a freak hailstorm hitting their vineyards one week before harvest was due and reducing the crop by an incredible 90%. From the healthy fruit that they could salvage, 17 barricas (barrels) was all that could be produced. It is a classic blend of 80% Tempranillo, 13% Graciano and 7% Garnacha with rich notes of plum, mulberry, vanilla, liquorice, chocolate and subtle toasty oak.
