Condrieu Les Grandes Chailles Montez 2018

Operated by Stéphane Montez since 1997, Domaine du Monteillet today occupies 23 hectares of prime vineyards in the Northern Rhône and produces wonderful wines of power, precision and structure. The Viognier grapes for Les Grandes Chaillées (named after the dry-stone walls that support the steeply terraced vines) come from six prime parcels in Chavanay and are fermented and matured in barriques and demi-muids. This is a deliciously textural wine with wonderful layers of stone fruits, grilled citrus, white flower blossom, honey and granitic minerality. Though ready to drink, this will evolve nicely if cellared for 3-5 years.
