Clos St Urbain Rangen de Thann Tokay Pinot Gris SGN Zind Humbrecht Half 1989

Domaine Zind-Humbrecht, one of the most recognisable names in French wine and greatest exponents of biodynamics in Alsace, has a number of parcels across the varied terroirs of Alsace and is renowned for expressing the complexity of the region through their single vineyard bottlings. SGN refers to `Selection de Grains Nobles` and this denotes sweet wines made from grapes affected by noble rot. They are rich and concentrated wines and only the four noble varieties - Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Muscat - may carry the SGN designation.

The 1989 is dark amber in colour with a stunning acidity that keeps the high levels of sugar in check. Toffee apples, ginger, dark honey and caramel with a finish that goes on forever.
