Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche 2009 is a full-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Grand Cru climat of Clos de la Roche in the Morey-Saint-Denis commune of the Côte de Nuits. Domaine Dujac was acquired by Jacques Seysses in 1967 and has established itself as one of the very finest producers in Burgundy with an exceptional range of seven Grand Cru wines. Older vintages of Clos de la Roche from Dujac are notoriously hard to come by and this is possibly one of the finest ever released from the fabled 2009 vintage. This should be absolutely perfect for drinking but will likely continue to evolve for at least another decade. Available here in half-bottle format.

The 2009 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a lucid hue with light bricking on the rim. It has an intriguing bouquet with a touch of menthol and hoisin, almost Bandol-like in style. Some brettanomyces perhaps? The palate is medium-bodied, harmonious and savory. The oak is just a little more pronounced and occludes some of the terroir expression on the finish. Yet unlike some of its peers in this vintage, this one improves and gains elegance in the glass. Tasted blind at the 2009 horizontal at Club 1243. - Neil Martin

Domaine Dujac

Domaine Dujac

Founded in the late 1960s by Jacques Seysses, who purchased and renovated Domaine Graillet in Morey-St-Denis. The estate is currently run by Jacques' sons Jeremy and Alec, who farm around 17 hectares of vines across the Côte including holdings in Echezeaux, Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin and Bonnes Mares.

A natural approach is taken in the vineyard and cellar with the estate moving from organic farming to fully biodynamic in the mid 2000s, receiving their certification in 2011. The team's focus is on elegance - temperatures are controlled to keep alcohol in check and also limit malolactic fermentation while juice from the crush is fed into the cellar by gravity only without the use of pumping. The wines of Domaine Dujac represent pure, balanced expressions of their respective terroirs.
