Bodegas Roda is one of the newest wineries in Rioja and very much represents the modern side of the region, favouring short maturation times versus more traditional extended barrel ageing. Cirsion was first released in 1998 and is a vineyard and barrel selection of 100% Tempranillo aged for 8 months in French oak and a further 4 months in bottle. The 2006 release is a wonderfully attractive wine with open-knit structure and gorgeous notes of blackberry, black cherry, tobacco, violets and earth. Voluminous, silky and supremely lengthy, this is benchmark modern Rioja.
