Founded in 1852, Marques de Murrieta is one of the oldest, most respected and most traditional wineries in Rioja. Produced only in the finest vintages, the iconic Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial is their flagship wine and is made with fruit sourced from the La Plana vineyard which was planted in 1950. The 2010 was released in 2019 and is a wonderfully svelte and elegant wine, reflective of the slightly cooler vintage. Regal and distinctly “old school” in feel, this is built for the long haul and will almost certainly reward those who have the patience.
