Château Batailley dates back to the 15th century, making it one of the oldest wine producers in the Pauillac appellation. The estate is currently owned by Borie-Manoux, the négociant firm led by Denise and Emile Castèja. They look after the 57-hectare vineyard, which sits on deep gravel over clay and limestone subsoil. The 2019 vintage of their Grand Vin is a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, presented here in a half bottle format. Expect notes of cassis, wild blueberries, star anise, graphite, espresso and a touch of menthol. A textbook Pauillac with excellent weight and character.
