Luca Roagna is undoubtedly one of the most respected winemakers in Piedmont and, though more famous for his incredible Barbaresco, he also makes a small quantity of Barbera from a 0.34-hectare plot of old vines in the historic Pira vineyard.
All fruit is hand-harvested, indigenous yeast fermented in large wooden casks, and is then aged in neutral oak barrels for 5 years. From the slightly cooler 2014 vintage, this is a superbly balanced wine hallmarked by wonderful fruit expression, intriguing savoury depth and endless finesse.
