Cascina Morassino was established in 1984 by Mauro Bianco. Now run by Mauro’s son, Roberto, the estate has grown to 4.5ha in size and has vineyards mostly in the Ovello and Cottà subzones. This wine comes exclusively from the Ovello cru, which is the northernmost vineyard in the village of Barbaresco and sits at around 250 to 320m elevation. Predominantly clay soils and a cooler microclimate give the wines from Ovello an exuberant quality to the fruit and fuller body, with firmer tannins that often require a little bottle age.
