Barbadillo Reliquia Palo Cortado
The Reliquia range of sherries were released to celebrate the six generations of the Barbadillo family and, whilst they do not have an age statement, they are said to contain wines that are well over 100 years old and are some of the rarest wines from the Jerez DO. The Palo Cortado comes from a solera of 120 casks that was constructed from stocks purchased by Barbadillo around 1850 and is bottled from the final criadera. This is perhaps one of the most spell-bindingly complex wines it is possible to buy and the multi-dimensional and ever-changing aromas are something to be savoured over many hours. The palate is dry, astonishingly concentrated and exceptionally powerful, with seemingly endless layers of bitter citrus, woodsmoke, noble woods, nut husks, griddled hazelnuts and iodine. A unique drinking experience but one that will never be forgotten.
