Weingut Balthasar Ress was founded in 1870 in the historic Rheingau village of Hattenheim. This Riesling was produced from Nussbrunnen, which is a Grosse Lage (highest classification) vineyard that takes its name from a local spring that is surrounded by nut trees. This is a mature Auslese Riesling meaning that the grapes have been harvested once affected with botrytis and is therefore rich and sweet in style. 1989 was generally considered a good quality vintage particularly for heavily botrytised wines.
