Situated in the historical Georgian province of Kakheti, Askaneli was founded in 1998 by the Chkhaidze brothers. The name ‘Askaneli’ is associated with the small, magical village of Askana, where the old cellar, built by the family’s ancestor, Antimoz Chkhaidze, still stands. Saperavi Qvevri is red wine from the iconic grape variety of the same name, prepared in an earthen vessel – qvevri – according to traditional Georgian winemaking practices. Expect a full-bodied, tannic wine, offering notes of blackberries, black cherries, spices and hints of smoke.
