Arnaldo Caprai is widely acknowledged as one of the finest producers of the lesser-known Umbrian speciality of Sagrantino Montefalco. Though most famous for the robust red wines produced from the local Sagrantino grape variety, Caprai also produces a wonderfully complex and elegant red from 100% Merlot. Using fruit sourced from vineyards that sit at 450m a.s.l., it is aged for 2 years in French oak barrique with a further 8 months in bottle before release. Though possible to drink now if decanted in advance of service, this should age well for up to 15 years.
