This is a wonderful 2,500-bottle cuvée made from Trousseau, a rare red grape variety more commonly found in the Jura as well as in Galicia and Portugal, where it is known as Bastarda/Bastardo. The grapes were sourced from a tiny 0.8-hectare vineyard planted in 1932 and were fermented in three bins, one with carbonic maceration, another entirely destemmed and the final parcel with 60% whole clusters. From there the wine was transferred to oak barrels to complete malolactic fermentation before a final period of 12 months maturation in an egg-shaped concrete vat. It is wonderfully fragrant and slightly wild in feel, with excellent balance and superb concentration throughout.
