In 1877 the distillery burnt to the ground before being swiftly rebuilt by the then owners, the Simpson family. The economic depression of the early 1930 bankrupted the family and they were forced to sell the distillery off to make ends meet. The distillery buildings were heavily damaged by German bombs during the Second World War and suffered another explosive fire in the late 1950s - talk about jinxed!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c!-- split --\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eBottlings are now incredibly rare and are almost always single cask editions released by independent bottlers such as Signatory or Gordon and MacPhail.
